NAVIGATING EMPLOYEE WELLBEING IN 2023 – A KENYAN PERSPECTIVE
The importance of employee wellbeing is increasingly becoming a priority for organizations in Kenya, with many offering a range of benefits to support the mental, physical, and financial health of their employees. A recent survey conducted by Samawati Wellness Ltd and Knightwise Human Capital Ltd between November 2022 and January 2023, 135 organizations participated, with 82% being private, 10% non-governmental, and 8% from the public sector.

However, the survey also identified challenges associated with administering and managing these wellbeing benefits. Tailoring benefits to personal needs and preferences ranked highest at 56%, followed by demonstrating Return on Investment (ROI) at 51%, and keeping track of benefits uptake and consumption at 22%.

It’s clear that employers in Kenya are prioritizing employee wellbeing, recognizing the importance of allocating budgets as an investment to attract and retain talent, and drive employee engagement. Employers can also leverage technology to track the return on investment (RoI) and utilization of wellness benefits. Additionally, long-term employee wellness and assistance programs can help employers ensure sustainable outcomes and maintain an engaged and mentally well workforce.
